What is Peri-implantitis?

Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory process that affects the soft and hard tissues surrounding dental implants.

The soft tissues become inflamed, while the alveolar bone (hard tissue) that surrounds the implant for retention purposes is lost over time.

Peri-implantitis affects the vast majority of patients who have undergone implant surgery.

For this reason, early diagnosis is the best prevention, and it is generally agreed that a non-surgical approach is ineffective, with the surgical approach being most successful, specifically guided bone regeneration.

If you have had any type of implant procedure, request a periodontal examination as part of your regular check-up.
